3D GRAVITYDJ PROJECT

3D GRAVITYDJ PROJECT

Over the course of three projects, developed in SMALLab1, an immersive multi-modal environment in the Arts and Media Engineering program at Arizona State University, we explored ways of leveraging simple gestural inputs to create highly active and engaging environments. Starting with simple collision detection programming and evolving to physics models inspired by gravitational equations, we created systems that functioned as an interactive art experience, a game, and finally, a surround sound DJ
mixing tool. The lessons we learned developing these projects have implications for artists, internet media designers, game designers, sound designers, computer musicians who want their audience to know they aren’t just checking their email, and anyone else who is interested in producing high quality interactive experiences.
