Imagine being able to wear bracelets, earrings, badges, and necklaces that develop an intimate relationship with you, reacting to you in many different ways. This is the goal of Living Jewelry. Each piece of Living Jewelry can learn to recognize different qualities in your voice and movement, discovering more of your personality and behavior. Like the unspoken layer of communication between a pet and its owner, you may construct a form of language in which you can communicate with your Living Jewelry. Gradually, it will learn your way of expressing yourself, and you may start to understand it's expressions as well.

Not only can Living Jewelry respond to your own behavior, but it can also
react to the people you meet. A close friend may find your Living Jewelry
warm and amiable, moving smoothly and densely. A stranger or overly-friendly
individual might find your Living Jewelry withdrawn or shivering in fear.
Needless to say, Living Jewelry can make an excellent
day-to-day conversation piece.

This is Bella a Living Jewelry that you carry very inconveniently in your
hand...
it is made of siver sterling, gold plated coper and polycarbonate. The main
objective in making Bella was to integrate in a relatively small space enough
complexity for interative behaviors to emerge. Bella as several sensors: light
sensor, RGB sensors, infra-red sensors, stereo sound sensor and stereo field
disturbance sensor. The way it expresses itself is via colored light, sound,
and two internal translucent motors that by moving back and forth or vibrating
can create subtle changes in the way light is emitted and reflected though
the silver grid. It's natural warmth gives it a sense of livelyhood that differentiates
it from the coldness of static objects. Bella's behavior comes from it's neural
network. Bella's neural network perceives it's environment and then develops
learned behavioral responses. Bella's neural network is genetically evolved
by a program we created called Gene Genie.
Prints are available at sculpture to wear and ki'zho galleries.
Living Jewelry is still in its early stages, and many ideas are being considered.
