Yves Amu Klein [USA]

In his quest to endow emotional intelligence and awareness to art, Yves Amu Klein has developed what he calls Living Sculptures. While researching to strike a balance between classic artistic expressions and new technologies, Klein developed these robotic forms. With the help of unusual technologies such as a brain-breeding software he designed, Klein proposes sculptures that not, only are "alive" but also interact with their environment and viewers. It's most developed and accomplished work is the Octofungi. a compact metallic structure equipped with a "brain", eight simple eyes and eight legs. Its nervous system is a neural network that makes decisions based on its sight and its history of interactions. Its legs move according to the brain's signals in movements that resemble those of a graceful sea anemone. More than simply aesthetically pleasing, the Octofungi manifests learnt behaviors and has functional "living" abilities. It displays depth of behavior and reacts to the various personalities of its viewers [an aggressive viewer triggers a defense mechanism while a passive viewer engages it in a more pleasant reaction].

As suas pernas movem-se de acordo corn sinais cerebrais que em movimento que se assemelham aos movimentos graciosos de uma anemona. Mais do que simplesmente agradavel esteticamente, o Octofungi manifesta comportamentos apreendidos e tern capacidades de vivencia funcionais. Demonstra profundidade nos comportamentos e reage as variadas personalidades dos espectadores (um espectador agressivo desperta um mecanismo de defesa enquanto um passive desperta uma reaccao mais agradavel).
